Foxfire Museum

Yesterday we went to the Foxfire Museum with the Ware's. It is in Mountain City, GA which is close to the SC/NC/GA line. We had a blast. We went to Canton to meet the Ware's then we rode with them to the museum which was a 2 hour drive.

Our tour guide demonstrating one of the tools they used in the 1800s. All the kids got to try it out. That's what I really like about this trip. The kids were able to do some hands on stuff. This way they got a better understanding of what it was like to do things back in the 1800s, before electricity and our easy way of life. Maybe it will give them more of an appreciation for what they have. The tour guide told us that a man building his house on his own would take him 2 years to finish!

Kerry is using a shaving tool they would use to make wood pegs, chair legs, etc.

Kerry is using an auger. They each had a chance to use it. That is Devin sitting on the log making sure she is doing it right.

Cami and Gracie sawing. They had a lot of fun with this one.

Devin and Daniel sawing.

Kerry and Emily

Taylor using one of the pulleys. She could lift the 50lb log with this one.

Emily using the pulley.

Devin on the log. He is lifting the log plus himself. This was funny!!

A wagon that was actually used in the trail of tears. It's the only one left in existence.

The girls sitting and listening to the tour guide.

The kids making a rope. Daniel posing for the camera and Devin making a face at him. Priceless!!

Devin and Daniel trying out the sweet birch stem. They would use these to brush their teeth. The boys really got into this one. That is their grandfather watching them.

Kerry and her leaf cup. The tour guide said the Cherokee would use poplar tree leaves to make cups for water or putting berries in. This was very interesting.

Daniel on the stilts. I wished I had videoed this one. All the kids did this except Taylor.

Gracie

Kerry reluctantly doing this. The tour guide helped them out.

Emily and Gracie looking out the window on the second floor of the grist mill.

We can't wait for the next field trip!! I would have had a better time but I started coming down with a cold Tuesday night so Wednesday I wasn't feeling that good. Devin and Daniel were so funny they kept us laughing!! They are a fun family!

It looks like everyone had a great time. Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. That place sounds very neat. We try to find things like that to do with Ryan.

I LOVE the picture of Kerry with her leaf cup. She is so pretty and grown up!

Papa really like the look of this place! He said he would like to go over there sometime. The picture of Kerry with the leaf cup is gorgeous, but she looks so grown up!
